This Remembrance weekend we invite experienced conductors to direct Epiphoni in Parry’s exquisite Songs of Farewell – with the option to programme music of your choice – in a fun and collaborative workshop/masterclass setting in Central London.
This unique event is an opportunity for established conductors to
- introduce yourself to Epiphoni, in view of our growing guest conducting roster
- trial new tools or techniques with an accomplished and responsive ensemble
- prepare for an audition or project
- get some light training from facilitating conductors Tim Reader and Noah Max
- get honest, candid feedback from the ensemble on your strengths and growing edges*
*according to your preference this could be delivered during the session or after.
Additionally, all participants will be offered a 1-1 session with founder of Epiphoni and life coach, Tim Reader before the weekend, and (optionally) a follow-up coaching session afterwards.
To apply please use our form here. Selected applicants will be invited to confirm with payment. One space remaining!
This is a remarkable opportunity to hone one’s conducting skills by working on one of the greatest English choral works, with a choir who can truly listen, adapt, and respond. I can’t think of any other environment more perfect for a choral conductor: it’s a friendly, but high quality, sandpit in which to experiment with the craft.

Noah Max
Noah Max is a composer and a conductor, the two disciplines constantly informing one another.
As director of Echo Ensemble he brought his own musical voice and works by his contemporaries to the attention of the public. A mentee of the late John Whitfield, Noah has been a mentor and teacher to many musicians and artists.
Familiar to singers and audiences of Epiphoni for many years, Noah has guest conducted the choir in performances of Duruflé, Bernstein and James MacMillan.
Tim Reader
Tim has directed Epiphoni over the last 11 years most recently leading the choir to competition success in Tallinn’s prestigious choral festival.
Tim has been trained by some of the best in the business – Robert Hollingworth, Neil Ferris, Peter Hanke amongst many others.
Tim’s teaching draws on the “client-led” and holistic approach of his life coaching practice, with a refreshing, philosophical and pragmatic take on the realities of choral leadership.

Incredibly helpful .. I performed [in my audition] so much better thanks to your advice and the safe and encouraging environment you provided. I also loved seeing others conduct and together creating that space for everyone to explore.
