Spring roundup: Gerontius, Hughes release, 10th anniversary

2024 has been busy so far: here’s a quick round-up of what’s going on and a look ahead to the second half of the year.

Still Dreaming of Gerontius…

We had an absolutely fantastic night in Fairfield Halls on Saturday 9 May with the wonderful KSO & incredible soloists performing Elgar’s great masterpiece. That’s one off the bucket list for our conductor.

One of many lovely audience quotes:

“fantastic, balanced sections. Incredible bass sound. Soprano top notes were piercing and clear. The Demon chorus was just fantastic… choir looked like they were enjoying themselves! Choir, soloists and orchestra uniformly excellent.”

10th anniversary win

More about our official event below but on the actual 10th anniversary of Epiphoni’s first public performance we went to a public house! And partook in a pub quiz… which we won! Let’s hope such fortune is an omen for our 10th anniversary year if not the ten years ahead!

Bernard Hughes carols recording

Our recording of Bernard Hughes’ Carols was released last week on Spotify, Tidal and other streaming services.

You can check out the full EP here: https://open.spotify.com/album/47xGCYNbNIqdsC4NGYrjs0?si=w57PDOHNSduyaRbbJsSQfA

Here’s a video of one of our favourite items, sure to feature this December, Here we Come A-Wassailing:

Please share widely – Bernard’s choral music deserves a wider audience and sharing it now allows those who will be programming Christmas music for this year enough time to order copies before the end of the summer break

Canterbury cathedral visit 1st – 4th August

We’re very much looking forward to visiting Canterbury to sing the services during August of this year. Our music list has recently been approved by the cathedral and can be found on our event page for the weekend. Music to include cathedral classics by Howells, Bairstow, Harris and Gibbons and newer repertoire by Annabelle Rooney and Ian Carpenter.

Immersive Fauré Requiem with Roderick Williams, Battersea Arts Centre, Sunday 10th November

We’re absolutely delighted to be singing alongside our soloists Roderick Williams and Hilary Cronin at this anniversary event to celebrate 10 years as a choir.

Tickets are currently at the Early Bird price of £19 (they will be £25 full price so book now!)
