Orchestral collaborations for 2017 – Mahler, Handel and Pärt

Epiphoni’s 2017 season will see a number of departures for the choir – amongst those are three concerts with prestigious London orchestras — and at venues to match.

Epiphoni have been invited, together with Pegasus and Vox Cordis choirs, to join Kensington Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Mahler’s Second Symphony at The Barbican on 15th May as part of their year-long 60th birthday celebrations.

Specially for this event, Epiphoni is expanding to its largest size yet of 60 singers, therefore marking the debut of the unofficially titled “Epiphoni Chorus”, which will perform once a year works of this symphonic nature.

KSO are widely considered to be London’s finest symphony orchestra outside the professional circuit and we are very excited to collaborate with them.

For our performance of Dixit Dominus by Handel at St Martin-in-the-Fields in July we have hired Zeitgeist Chamber Orchestra. Their conductor Sam Poppleton is an occasional member of Epiphoni and it will be a delight to work with him in this guise.

Finally, for our third orchestral outing this year, the very distinguished City of London Sinfonia have hired us for the first in their Modern Mystics Sonic Trilogy, The Fruit of Silence — a programme of Pärt and Vasks at Southwark Cathedral.

We couldn’t be more thrilled with how our 2017 is shaping up. We very much look forward to seeing you at one or more of these events!
